Current passenger series since 2000 in blue on white.
The registration consists of two letters, followed by four numerals in between two red lines.
In the middle of the registration are two red lines below three red stars.
At the top of the plate, above the red line, is Washington DC in blue.
At the bottom of the plate, below the red line, is TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION in blue capitals.
There are no revalidation stickers on the plate itself anymore, instead there is a windscreen sticker, since April 2002.

In the top corners are month and year revalidation stickers (November 2003).

At the top of the plate, above the red line, is the slogan A Capital City in blue.
At the bottom of the plate, below the red line, is Washington DC in blue.
In the lower corners are month and year revalidation stickers (May 2002).


Historic series

District of Columbia

Current historic motorcycle verhicle (vehicles at least 25 years old) series in blue on white with a red border.
The registration consists of four numerals.
At the top of the plate is HISTORIC MOTOR VEHICLE, at the bottom DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, both in blue capitals.
In front of the registration are the letters HMV in blue are vertically aligned.
To the left is the Capitol dome and D.C. flag in red, white and blue.
There are no revalidation stickers on the plate itself anymore, instead there is a windscreen sticker, since April 2002.
